Canine Influenza Updates

Canine Influenza Updates | Animal Hospital of Sandy Springs

While there hasn’t been a large outbreak of canine influenza (CIV) in our region since last year’s cases traced to a dog show, the virus is still a health issue for our pets. This highly contagious disease is of particular concern for dogs whose lifestyle includes regular contact with other canines at dog parks, kennels, groomers, and doggie daycare.

Vaccination is also recommended for senior dogs, and those with pre-existing heart and lung conditions, as CIV can easily develop into more serious illnesses like pneumonia for these pets.

If you have questions about canine influenza or want to get your pet in for a CIV vaccination, make an appointment online or contact us.
